how Many Groups, Who Gets To Play Who In The Semi’s?
I don’t follow ice hockey but want to understand what’s happening in the Olympics. Who do you expect to win?
What chance are Canada?
Ok I love ice hockey so I’ll try and break this down as easy as I can. There are 12 teams that qualify for the Olympics and all together they play 18 preliminary games. Teams get 3 points for a win, 1 point for regulation tie, 2 points for overtime win, and 0 for loss. After those games they seed the teams 1-12 in which the top 4 seeds receive a first round bye. So 5 plays 12, 6 plays 11, and so on. It’s single elimination after that all the way until the third place game and the two teams who play for the gold, so it’s like a bracket. Canada has a real good shot, their roster is stacked. Russia and Sweden are the other two that could take it. Hope that helps.
top 4 teams from 3 groups go to the quarters. the teams that finished 5th to 12th play against eachother (5v12, 6v11, 7v10, 8v9) and the winner of each goes to the quarterfinals. quarterfinals is the best ranked vs the worst ranked. 2nd best vs 2nd worst. 3rd best vs 3rd worst. and 4th best vs 4th worst. Winner of best vs worst plays winner of 4th best vs 4th worst in the Semis. 2nd best vs 2nd worst and 3rd best vs 3rd worst play eachother in the Semi’s. Then winners of Semi’s play for Gold, and losers play for Bronze.
